Worship Life

Liturgical Worship

The word we use to describe the unfolding of our Sunday morning worship is liturgical. There is an order to our time in worship. The music, tempo, words, colors, actions, and mood may vary but we walk through an ancient order of service that follows a logical progression of thought, action, and intention.

Part I
We gather in the sanctuary to hear a greeting and announcements, confess our sins, hear the proclamation of forgiveness, sing, and pray.

Part II
We listen to the Scripture lessons, hear a sermon that expands on the meaning of the lessons, then pray as a church our words of praise, concern, and thanksgiving.

Part III
We share the peace with one another, commit ourselves to the work of the church through our offering, set the table for the Lord's Supper, and invite everyone to take part in the communion meal as we sing hymns of praise.

Part IV
We depart with a blessing and song as we go forth to serve the Lord.

Note: Liturgy means "the work of the people."

Music in Worship

Our congregation sets a high standard for the singing and instrumental portions of our worship. The singing of hymns and the liturgy create the foundation for the choir, ensembles, and solo voices.

The Organ
The organ is the workmanship of Hillgren, Lane & Company of Alliance, Ohio. It has 44 stops and 2,843 individual pipes, ranging in size from sixteen feet to some as tiny as a lead pencil. The organ is located in two chambers, at the right of the chancel and in the echo chamber above the balcony. The console stands in the choir place to the left of the chancel. Deagan Harp and chimes are incorporated in the main organ and the echo organ respectively. The organ meets the requisites of recital techniques and inspires the worshiper to prayer, praise and thanksgiving.

The Chancel Choir
Our adult choir sings weekly at our 10:30 a.m. service during the school year. They practice on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. We can always use more singers. We don't look for perfect singers, only faithful ones.

Ensemble Music
We are always looking for ways to include members and friends in ensemble music to add a spirit of celebration and diversity into our worship. This may be vocal, instrumental, or percussion.

Children in Worship

We encourage all of God's children to be a part of worship. This means we ensure that, within the order of our worship, children have a place.

The Children's Message
Each week, the children are invited to come forward for a lesson created especially for them.

Children at the Lord's Supper
First Communion instruction is provided for children in the fifth grade. For children who do not yet receive the Lord's Supper, we offer a sign of welcome by giving them a blessing as they come forward for Holy Communion.

The Sacraments

The Eucharist
Often called the Lord's Suppor or Holy Communion, this meal of bread and wine allows us to practice Eucharistic hospitality. All baptized Christians who believe in the real presence of Christ in the sacrament are welcome to join us. We respect the traditions of those who visit us and honor your decision as to whether or not to participate.

Baptism
In our fellowship, people of all ages are baptized for life. At Martin Luther Lutheran Church, baptizing infants and very young children is a living sign of God's unconditional grace. God acts and we respond in different ways as we move through many stages in our faith development.

When we bury our dead, the casket is draped in a white funeral pall that symbolizes our life in Christ through baptism.
