The Spirit is With Us Today...

I well remember the groundbreaking service on Palm Sunday, March 29, 1931.  I was twelve years old at the time.  During the groundbreaking ceremony a severe thunder and lightening storm occurred.  A small tent had been set up on what is now the main entrance to our parking lot.  My dad took me by the hand and we went into the tent and sat on one of the two benches.  A stream of water flowed between the benches as a streak of lightening hit nearby and a ball of fire traveled on top of the stream of water entering on one opening of the tent and out the other.  There was not time to be afraid, as my dear Dad, holding my hand said, “Surely son, the Holy Spirit is with us today.”  And the Holy Spirit continues to be a major partner of Martin Luther through the rain and sunshine these many years.
