The Organ

1859 ~ Martin Luther Lutheran Church ~ 2009
150th Anniversary

“Praise the Lord.
Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the saints.”
Psalm 149:1

The Organ ~

The organ is a product of Hillgreen, Lane & Company, of Alliance, Ohio.  It is located in two chambers at the right of the chancel and in the echo chamber above the balcony.  The console stands in the choir place to the left of the chancel.  It originally had 40 stops, 28 couplers, 17 individual manual pistons and 6 general pistons, the latter being duplicated by 6 toe studs.  In 1959, the organ was completed to its full potential.  It has 44 stops and 2,843 individual pipes, ranging in size from 16 feet to some as tiny as a lead pencil.  As finally completed, it fully covers not only the exacting range of unlimited religious music requirements but meets the requisites of recital techniques. Deagan Harp and chimes are incorporated in the main organ and the echo organ respectively.

One would be remiss to refer to the organ at Martin Luther without acknowledging
Christine Knuth.  Her passing in April of 2008 was a great loss to the church.  Her dedication as organist and member of Martin Luther is unquestioned.  She served for 64 years as organist and faithful servant to the church, retiring on September 1, 1998.  How many services had she played? Only God knows.  How many weddings did she skillfully play the Wedding March.  Yours maybe? How many students did she teach?  Maybe you or someone you know are one of them.  It is with great gratitude and Christian love that she is remembered.

Psalm 100

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.

2  Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing.

3  Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we

ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise;

be thankful unto him and bless his name.

5  For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all

generations.
