Mitchell’s Memories
So that’s where it was…..
At one time, we had a real printing press at the bottom of our steps to the gym hallway in the office on the right. The press was used in our early days for printing bulletins. Pastor Schellhases’ sons, Paul and Fred, would set the type and operate the press each Saturday morning for the following day service. The bulletin was only one sheet and quite condensed.
A nursery was started after the congregation complained of baby noises. One suggestion was to build an enclosed room in the back narthex corner of the church that would be sound proof and be wired to receive the services taking place. Instead, the first nursery was built in the space where Pastor Heine’s office is now. The nursery was later moved to its present location near Fellowship Hall.
Pastors’ offices have been in different locations over the years. The original office was the room behind the secretary’s office, where the copy machine is located. Other pastors’ offices were the room upstairs by the bell tower, and the room by the men’s restroom in the hallway leading to the gym.
